Resulting from the Covid pandemic, the following exceptional changes are being implemented
Because the Herne Farm hall is unavailable for meetings for the foreseable future and to meet social distancing requirements, the commiuttee have reluctantly agreed to cancel all scheduled meetings, day visits and social events until January 2021.
Because of Covid 19, the current year (2019/20) will extended from 31 August 2020 to the 31 December 2020. A shortened year from 1 January 2021 to 31 August 2021 will restore the normal yearly cycle. Renewal Membership forms will be circulated in Nov/Dec 2020 for the shortened year at a reduced cost of £10 per person.
A full programme of speakers is scheduled for 2021 starting on Thursday 14 January at Herne Farm at 7.30pm with a talk by Ian Currie, the former BBC weather presenter, titled ‘SE weather over the last 350 years’.
The AGM for the extended year 2019/2020 will be held at Herne Farm at 7.30pm on Thursday 11 February 2021 followed by a social evening.
The 2021 Club Holiday to Suffolk is at an advanced state of planning. It will be a five day, four night event based in Colchester. Visits will include Ickworth House and Gardens, Beth Chatto’s Garden and nursery, Stowmarket – a moated hall designed by Xa Tollemache and voted garden of the year 2017, Sutton Hoo – site of an Anglo-Saxon king’s burial ship, Flatford Mill – the setting for Constable’s paintings, and much more. The cost, depending on numbers, is expected to be about £500 with a single room supplement of £80. The programme will be updated on the website when fully finalised.
Once we start meeting it will be very important to attract new members. Everyone is urged to encourage any interested individuals to come along to a meeting to savour the quality of the speakers and friendliness of the club.
